Why she started
lemonade press
After I was diagnosed as gene positive for Huntington’s disease (HD) I struggled to find anything hopeful about living with the disease in my family. The message I received from society was that my life was ruined and I should feel sorry for myself.
I knew I didn’t want my diagnosis to ruin my life so I decided I was going to live a fulfilling and happy life even with HD as a part of it. At the time I found it hard to find positive stories about other people doing the same thing.
I wrote a book about my experiences because I knew it would help people in a similar situation. Little did I know that it would help me too. I felt the healing power that came with writing and sharing my story with the world. It has allowed me to live a more authentic and less fearful life.
I started Lemonade Press because I wanted to create a space for people’s voice to be heard. To give them the opportunity to share, not only the hardships they have been through, but the ways they have grown, the lessons they have learned, and the good things about their lives. I wanted to give people the opportunity to experience the catharsis of storytelling.
Our stories are important. Lemonade Press gives people the opportunity to share them.
ABOUT ERIN
Erin Paterson, founder of Lemonade Press, tested gene positive for Huntington’s Disease (HD) in 2006. Shortly after she started suffering from depression, then received more crushing news, she was infertile. Despite those diagnoses she was determined to have a family and live a meaningful life.
By writing and speaking about her struggles she shows that it’s possible to find happiness even when faced with unexpected obstacles. Her memoir, All Good Things: A Story About Genetic Testing, Infertility and One Woman’s Relentless Search for Happiness, was released in 2021.
Erin launched Lemonade Press to empower patient communities. She helps people write and share their own medical journeys in inspiring anthologies.
business Model
We publish books that other companies won’t. The traditional publishing model relies on high book sales which drives the types of stories they can share.
At Lemonade Press we believe everyone’s voice deserves to be heard!
We work with underrepresented medical communities to create specialized anthologies about different medical conditions and rare diseases.
We take people who are not writer’s and coach them through the story telling and writing process to create captivating personal stories geared towards inspiring their community.
Each writer is an integral part of the team and has an important role to play. We work together to fundraise and find sponsorship’s to cover the books productions costs upfront. Once the book is published, 50% of the proceeds from book sales are donated to a related charity.
